Toyota 4x4

Repaired to the standard you bought it for

The 4×4 work is aimed at Toyotas. People buy them for the quality behind the badge, and the repair is done with that in mind. The vehicle is kept reliable. That is the brief. It is not a general 4×4 menu with a Toyota squeezed into it, and it is not an invitation to treat the vehicle as a platform for parts that fight the way it was built.

Parts are OEM, or the equivalent. On these vehicles that is the rule, not an optional upgrade you have to ask for. A repair that quietly fits something lesser, because it was on the shelf, is not the repair this page is describing. If the equivalent is what is being fitted, it is the equivalent, and it is said so. The point of the rule is the vehicle you bought, still reliable after the work.

The jobs that belong here are the servicing and the repairs, and the conversation before a long trip, which is the next section. A GVM question and a secondary fuel filter are both things we will talk through. The GVM maths, and the reason a modern diesel wants a fuel water separator before a trip, are in the questions further down. Bring the vehicle. A guess about what it weighs, or about what the fuel system will tolerate, is a poor way to leave town.

The workshop is at 2/24 Iindah Road West, Tinana QLD 4650. If the 4×4 can be driven, bring it in. If you are setting it up before a trip and you want the work booked, the quote page will take the vehicle and what you are asking it to do. The phone, if you would rather talk first, is (07) 4123 5246. This page is not the heavy truck page and it is not the fleet page. A Toyota 4×4 is its own work.

Before you leave

Set up for the long trip

For an outback trip or any long trip away, we will talk through what that vehicle needs. The advice is tied to the 4×4 in front of us. It is not a generic packing list, and it is not a set of parts chosen because they are popular on a vehicle we have not seen. A Toyota bought for its reliability deserves the setup judged against that vehicle, the load, and the trip.

The conversation has a few plain questions. Where are you going, and how long will you be away? What will you carry? Has any warning already appeared? Should the fuel side be looked at before you leave? Those are not a form you have to perform. They are how the setup stays specific. A vehicle that will carry a lot is a GVM conversation. A vehicle that will rely on fuel it cannot vouch for is a secondary-filter conversation. Both are answered on this page, in the questions below, from the vehicle rather than from a rule of thumb.

Parts fitted for the trip follow the same rule as any other repair here. OEM, or the equivalent. A long trip is a bad time to discover that a part was chosen because it was cheap. The work is done at the Tinana workshop, at 2/24 Iindah Road West, before you go. It is not a roadside plan for after something has already failed out of town.

Book it as a planned job. The quote page asks for the vehicle and what it needs, and a trip setup is a clear answer to that. If you would rather talk the trip through first, ring (07) 4123 5246. Bring the 4×4 if you can. The advice is better with the vehicle in the bay than with a description of it over the phone. Leave enough time before you go that the work is finished, not started, on the morning you leave.

Questions on a Toyota 4×4

Does my 4x4 need a GVM upgrade?

We are happy to do the maths. There is a common misunderstanding with GVM and the true weight your vehicle can legally carry.

Do I need a secondary fuel filter?

A secondary fuel filter is the fail-safe for the diesel engine and for a planned trip away. Modern fuel systems are intricate, and contamination such as water can damage the injectors and then the engine. We recommend a fuel water separator for every modern diesel vehicle.
